The federal government has directed all electricity distribution companies to ensure an uninterrupted power supply across the country during the month of Muharram, particularly on the 9th and 10th of the holy month.
According to official instructions issued under the direction of Federal Energy Minister Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, special standard operating procedures have been circulated to all power distribution companies to maintain continuous electricity supply and remain on high alert throughout the period.
The minister has instructed relevant authorities to take all necessary measures to avoid power disruptions during religious gatherings and processions, emphasising the importance of reliable electricity provision during Muharram observances.
In parallel, the Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province from 17 June to 26 June as part of heightened security arrangements for Muharram.
Under the restrictions, the display of weapons and explosives in public places has been completely banned. Authorities have also prohibited hate speeches and slogans that may incite sectarian tension.
Additional measures include a ban on digging trenches on rooftops along procession routes, as well as restrictions on storing stones, bricks, bottles, or other potentially hazardous materials on rooftops of buildings situated along those routes.
Pillion riding will also remain banned during the period, with an exemption granted only to police personnel.
The government has stated that most restrictions will come into force from the first of Muharram, while the ban on pillion riding will be enforced from the ninth day of the month.
