Pakistan and Iran have agreed to expand cooperation in the transport sector by improving road and railway connections aimed at boosting bilateral trade and regional connectivity.
The understanding was reached during high-level discussions between senior officials from both countries, where both sides emphasized the importance of efficient transport infrastructure in strengthening economic ties and facilitating cross-border commerce.
As part of the discussions, Pakistan and Iran decided to revive the Joint Transport Committee to address pending transportation issues and improve coordination on matters related to border management and logistics.
Officials reviewed challenges affecting the movement of cargo vehicles and commercial containers across the shared border and agreed to work on practical solutions to reduce delays and simplify customs and clearance procedures.
Pakistani representatives highlighted that stronger road and rail networks would not only increase trade volumes but also open new opportunities for investment and regional cooperation.
The Iranian side welcomed efforts aimed at improving transport connectivity and expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s support for regional peace initiatives and diplomatic engagement in recent months.
The meeting was attended by senior Pakistani officials representing the communications, commerce, railways and maritime sectors, reflecting Islamabad’s broader strategy to enhance economic integration with neighboring countries.
Both countries also reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation beyond transport, including security coordination, border management, trade facilitation and technological collaboration.
The latest discussions follow a series of high-level exchanges between Islamabad and Tehran aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and promoting stability and economic development across the region.
With renewed focus on connectivity projects, Pakistan and Iran are expected to accelerate efforts to improve trade corridors and create faster, more reliable transport routes linking the two neighboring countries.
