Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has attended the funeral ceremony of the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
He participated in the funeral ceremony at the invitation of Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian.
The Prime Minister led a high-level delegation from Pakistan that included Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and other senior government officials.
On this solemn occasion, the Prime Minister recalled the lasting contributions of the late Supreme Leader for Islam. He paid rich tribute to the late Supreme Leader, who guided the Iranian nation for decades, with remarkable wisdom and sagacity.
The Prime Minister expressed full solidarity with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian and the brotherly people of Iran in this moment of national grief and prayed to Allah Almighty for forgiveness of the departed leader.
Meanwhile, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran today. During the meeting, the Field Marshal paid tribute to the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for his services to Iran.
It is pertinent to mention that Syed Asim Munir visited Tehran to attend the final funeral rites of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. After attending the funeral prayers of the Iran’s martyred Supreme Leader in Tehran, he departed for home. Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, along with senior civil and military officials, bade farewell to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Parliamentary delegation led by Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani and Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Parliamentarians and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah also attended the funeral along with the Prime Minister.
After attending the ceremony, the Prime Minister, who had arrived in Tehran earlier on Friday, departed for Istanbul for his official visit to Turkiye.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrived in Tehran on Friday to attend the funeral ceremony of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will participate in the funeral proceedings in Tehran and convey heartfelt condolences to the Iranian leadership and the bereaved family on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan.
In separate visits, Field Marshal Asim Munir and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also reached Tehran to attend the funeral and burial ceremonies of the late Iranian leader.
Field Marshal Asim Munir was received at Tehran Airport by senior Iranian officials, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and senior Iranian military officials.
Earlier, Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran from Saudi Arabia, where he was welcomed by his Iranian counterpart Eskandar Momeni. The two leaders also held an important meeting on matters of mutual interest.
According to Iranian media reports, Senator Mohsin Naqvi will participate in the historic farewell and burial ceremonies of Ayatollah Khamenei.
Pakistan’s representatives will also express condolences and reaffirm solidarity with the Iranian leadership and people during the visit.
