Terming reduction in the prices of petroleum products by Rs1.97 per liter, ‘unfortunate’, ‘shameful’, and ‘anti-people’, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Saturday demanded that the prices be fixed according to the prices which were in the international market prior to the start of the US-Iran war.
In a statement on X, he said that by not announcing a big cut in the POL prices, the government had usurped the rights of the masses. “This is all because of the lavish lifestyle and incompetence of rulers,” he said, and alleged that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had become a hub of corruption.
The JI Ameer said that ‘bhata tax’ was being collected from the people in the name of levy. “We will not allow this to happen,” he said categorically.
It was high time, he went on to say, that the masses took to streets to reclaim their rights.
Naeem announced that the party would announce countrywide protests in the next 48 hours.
