PM to head National Population Council with Field Marshal among members

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has established National Population Council in order to deal with the growing challenge of Pakistan’s rapid population growth and frame effective policies.

According to the formal notification issued on Tuesday, PM Shehbaz Sharif will be the chairman of the council while Chief of Defence Staff (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir will be one of his members.

Chief ministers of the four provinces, Azad Kashmir prime minister and Gilgit Baltistan chief minister will also be part of this council.

A number of federal ministers including planning, finance, health, education and law were also appointed as members of the council.

The meeting of the council will be convened twice during the year with Ministry of Population Planning acting as its secretariat.

Religious scholars, members of civil society and private sector will also be made part of the council.
