PM Shehbaz forms committee for appointment of GB governor

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday constituted a three-member committee, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, to oversee political and administrative matters in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) as well as to speed up the process of appointment of the territory’s governor.

Sources told the 24News TV channel that other members of the committee were Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam and Rana Sanaullah, who would finalize the name of the candidate for the position of the governor.

Sources further said that the PML-N had hinted at selecting the candidate from GB.

For that, they added, the committee would put forward the names of persons, who could be the possible candidates, to the party’s high command.

Former prime minister and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif had directed that a party loyalist be selected as a candidate for the coveted post, sources said, adding that Ameer Muqam had already swung into action and was making contacts with the party leaders in GB.

The committee members would meet soon to finalize the process.
