Murad Ali Shah orders zero-tolerance policy against HIV cases

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday presided over a special meeting to review HIV cases in Kulsumbai Valika Hospital in Karachi.

Minister for Labour Saeed Ghani, Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Haider Shah, Secretary to CM Mohammad Asif Jameel, Secretary Labour Sajid Jamal Abro, Secretary Health Tahir Solangi, Commissioner Sisi, and other high officials attended the meeting.

Murad Ali Shah said that any kind of negligence in the provision of health facilities will absolutely not be tolerated.

A comprehensive briefing was given to the Chief Minister about the HIV cases. He was informed that 78 cases of HIV were detected in the children so far.

The first case surfaced on October 23, 2025 and he immediately directed to hold impartial inquiry.

The Chief Minister allocated an amount of Rs2 billion for the treatment of children with HIV and the welfare of their families.

Provincial Minister for Labour Saeed Ghani said that thirty-seven officers and staff members, including former and current administrators, doctors, nurses, and other personnel, have been suspended.

He further revealed that departmental proceedings were initiated against 10 officers, including the former Medical Superintendent, in December 2025.

Labor Minister Saeed Ghani stated that the comprehensive inquiry committee submitted its report on June 19, 2026.

The comprehensive inquiry committee held several officers and officials responsible for administrative, supervisory, and operational negligence.

SESSI has implemented various corrective measures following the investigation, states Labour Minister Saeed Ghani.

A special antiretroviral therapy center for HIV-affected children has been established at Kulsoom Bai Valika Hospital, according to a briefing.

Medical treatment facilities at Kulsoom Bai Valika Hospital are fully operational, says Labour Minister Saeed Ghani.

A special isolation ward has been set up for HIV-positive children, the Chief Minister of Sindh was informed during a briefing.

Syed Murad Ali Shah said that all hospitals of SESSI will be equipped with the latest health facilities and protection from infection and security of patients will be further enhanced.
