Freshly crowned FIFA World Cup 2026 champions Spain have climbed to the top of the latest FIFA men’s world rankings following their unbeaten title-winning campaign.
Spain, who defeated Argentina to lift the World Cup trophy at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19, earned the biggest ranking boost of 121.17 points, moving from second to first place in the global standings.
Argentina, the FIFA World Cup 2022 champions and runners-up in the 2026 edition, have dropped to second.
France remain third in the rankings, followed by England in fourth place.
Brazil, despite being eliminated by Norway in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, have moved up one place to fifth.
Morocco, who were knocked out by France in the quarter-finals, have reached their highest-ever FIFA ranking at sixth.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal have slipped two places to seventh after an early exit from the tournament.
Belgium, beaten by eventual champions Spain in the quarter-finals, have climbed one place to eighth, while the Netherlands occupy ninth position and Mexico complete the top 10.
Among the biggest movers downward, Tunisia dropped 12 places to 57th after losing all three of their Group F matches at the World Cup.
Panama suffered the largest points loss in the rankings, dropping 60.74 points, and are now ranked 44th after finishing bottom of Group L with three defeats.
In Asia and the surrounding region, Iran are ranked 22nd, Egypt 24th, India 138th and Ethiopia 143rd.
Afghanistan occupy 177th place, Bangladesh are 181st, Sri Lanka are 187th, while Pakistan remain 199th among FIFA’s 210 ranked member associations.
At the bottom of the latest FIFA rankings is San Marino, the tiny European nation and one of the world’s oldest republics, which remains in last place.
