ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rainfall across Karachi and other parts of southern and central Pakistan under the influence of an active monsoon system, warning of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas.
According to an official weather alert, more rain is expected across southern and central regions till Monday.
Thunderstorms accompanied by moderate to heavy rainfall are likely in Sindh, Punjab, and several other parts of the country.
In Sindh, rainfall is expected between July 24 and July 28 in Karachi and several other districts, including Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu, Khairpur, and surrounding areas.
In Punjab, heavy rainfall is forecast from July 24 to July 26 in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and other central districts.
The Meteorological Department warned that intense rainfall could trigger urban flooding in vulnerable cities.
Strong winds, dust storms, and lightning may also damage weak and poorly constructed buildings and infrastructure.
Authorities have advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period.
Farmers have been urged to plan agricultural activities in accordance with the weather conditions, while livestock owners have been instructed to take appropriate precautionary measures.
Relevant government departments have also been directed to remain on high alert and implement advance preparedness measures.
