LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has called for collective efforts to eliminate hepatitis, saying the government is prioritising screening and free treatment for citizens.
In a message on World Hepatitis Day, Maryam said the nation must renew its commitment to eliminating the disease. She said providing people with access to hepatitis screening and free treatment was among the government’s top priorities.
She said screening services through mobile hospitals were bringing healthcare facilities to people’s doorsteps, while hepatitis patients were being provided free diagnosis and treatment without any financial burden.
The chief minister said strict restrictions had been imposed on the manufacture and reuse of substandard syringes to help prevent the spread of the disease.
She added that all government hospitals were undergoing deep cleaning and that health and hygiene protocols were being strictly enforced.
Maryam urged citizens to undergo timely hepatitis screening to protect their lives. She said doctors, nurses, the public and the government could work together to eliminate hepatitis and called on everyone to join efforts to build a healthier Pakistan.
