Law-enforcement agencies in Punjab have prepared a detailed analytical report on incidents of child sexual abuse and murder across the province, it was reported on Thursday.
The report, based on official crime data and case investigations, has been submitted to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for review.
According to the report, more than 5,000 cases of child sexual abuse were reported across Punjab, including Lahore, during the past two years. The findings highlight the alarming scale of crimes against children and identify key patterns based on registered cases and investigations.
The report reveals that more than 60 per cent of the victims were boys, while girls accounted for between 38 and 40 per cent of the reported cases.
One of the most concerning findings is that 99 per cent of the suspects involved in child sexual abuse cases were known to the victims. The accused included local shopkeepers, street vendors, tuition teachers, close relatives, and other individuals familiar to the children.
Children between the ages of seven and 12 were found to be the most vulnerable, making up the largest proportion of victims reported during the period under review.
Officials said the analytical report was prepared after examining the circumstances of the crimes, investigation records, and registered cases to better understand trends and risk factors associated with offences against children.
Authorities stated that the findings of the report will be used to formulate measures aimed at preventing child sexual abuse, improving child protection, and strengthening law enforcement efforts across the province.
