The Punjab government has approved significant amendments to the regulations governing private housing schemes as part of its efforts to accelerate reforms in the province’s housing sector.
The changes are intended to strengthen regulatory oversight, improve transparency and support the development of affordable housing projects.
The provincial cabinet has approved amendments to the Punjab Development Authority Private Housing Schemes Rules 2021, as well as revisions to the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) Affordable Private Housing Scheme Rules 2020.
Under the revised framework, the approval, regulation and monitoring of new private housing schemes will be carried out under updated procedures designed to improve governance across the sector.
Officials said the reforms are aimed at creating a more effective regulatory system while ensuring greater accountability in housing development.
The amendments also seek to encourage investment in affordable housing by introducing updated rules intended to facilitate low-cost residential projects across the province.
Implementation of the approved reforms will be overseen by the Punjab Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Department, which will be responsible for enforcing the revised regulations.
