The Punjab government has approved the transfer of 15,884 pending complaints involving alleged illegal possession of properties to the province’s property tribunals.
According to 24NewsHD television, citizens who had already filed complaints under the previous system will not be required to submit new applications.
The pending complaints currently with deputy commissioners and dispute resolution committees will be transferred to the relevant property tribunals in the districts concerned.
All 15,884 cases will be sent to the tribunals along with their complete records, allowing the new forums to continue the proceedings without requiring applicants to restart their cases.
The Advocate General of Punjab has described the transfer of the pending complaints to the property tribunals as legally valid and workable.
Under the amended law, complaints involving illegal occupation of property will now be decided by property tribunals. Before the amendment, such complaints were generally filed with the relevant deputy commissioners.
The decision to transfer the pending cases follows guidance from a Lahore High Court ruling. The tribunals will reconsider the unresolved possession complaints under the provisions of the new law.
The government can formally order the transfer of the pending cases under Section 26, allowing the property tribunals to take up the complaints under the revised legal framework.
