Police foil attempted bombing at Mandan Gate in Bannu

Police on Monday foiled a possible major attack at Mandan Gate after explosives planted in a motorcycle were detected and recovered, officials said.

According to police, unidentified terrorists had fitted the motorcycle with explosives and parked it in the Mandan area, close to a police mobile vehicle.

A minor blast occurred in the explosives attached to the motorcycle, prompting security personnel to cordon off the area and call in the bomb disposal squad.

The bomb disposal squad subsequently recovered the explosive material from the motorcycle.

Police said around three to five kilograms of explosives had been planted in the vehicle.

Mandan Gate is a densely populated intersection where police and traffic personnel are routinely deployed.

Officials said the incident could have caused major casualties and damage had the explosives detonated fully.

Police have launched an investigation to identify and trace those involved in planting the motorcycle bomb.
