Punjab enforces Centre of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism law

LAHORE: Punjab has enforced a key law concerning the Punjab Centre of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism, with the gazette notification of the amended 2026 law issued.

Under the Punjab Centre of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism (Amendment) Act 2026, the centre has been granted formal corporate legal status.

Following the amendment, the centre can enter into agreements in its own name and has legal authority to acquire movable and immovable property.

According to the amended law, the centre may sell or transfer its immovable property with prior approval from the provincial government.

The centre has also been authorised to institute legal proceedings in its own name, while legal proceedings can also be initiated against it.

The law grants the centre permanent legal status and a common seal. For this purpose, Section 3 of the Punjab Centre of Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism Act 2025 has been amended.
