Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam has said that the federal government and KP are now on the same page following the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency measures in the province, it was reported on Monday.
Addressing a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, Muqam who also heads the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in KP criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), that their 13-year rule had resulted in the wastage of public resources, corruption, unemployment and rising terrorism.
He said that people had welcomed the end of the PTI government by distributing sweets and celebrating in different parts of the province.
Muqam said that public funds had been used for political rallies and attempts to secure the release of an incarcerated individual, while the provincial government had repeatedly tried to confront the federal government instead of focusing on governance.
He called for accountability of those allegedly involved in corruption, misuse of public resources and providing protection to terrorists. He also urged the advisory council to play an effective role in addressing these issues.
The federal minister said the time had come to address the longstanding grievances of the people of KP and ensure that they received facilities and development opportunities comparable to those available in other provinces.
He further said law enforcement agencies were playing their role in maintaining law and order and expressed hope that a new era of peace and prosperity would begin in the province.
Acknowledging the difficulties caused by containers placed on roads in Peshawar, Muqam said the roads would be reopened within the next one or two days.
He concluded that the province needed a renewed focus on governance, public welfare and development rather than political rallies and confrontations.
