FBR receives record 7.5 million income tax returns till 30 Oct

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), smashing all previous records of tax compliance, has received historic number of 7.5 million income tax returns till October 30, 2026 against 5.7 million received by October 30, 2025, reflecting an increase of 1.8 million returns.
The increase comes as the Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA) and Lahore Tax Bar Association (LTBA) have sought another extension in the filing deadline for Tax Year 2026, citing insufficient time for taxpayers to complete their returns.

In a letter to FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial, PTBA President Sheikh Ahsan Ul Haq and General Secretary Tahir Mahmood Butt requested an additional 34 days, arguing that the original filing notification was issued on September 2, creating a delay of 64 days from July 1.

The association said the two extensions of 15 days each granted by the FBR had only partially compensated for the delay, leaving taxpayers with 34 fewer days than the prescribed filing period.

The LTBA separately demanded that taxpayers be allowed the full statutory period of 90 days to submit their returns.

The PTBA also raised concerns over tax collection, citing figures indicating that 7.3 million returns filed by October 29 generated Rs85 billion, compared with Rs88.5 billion collected during the corresponding period last year.
