JCP to draft rules for high court judges’ performance on Friday

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has summoned a meeting on Friday, September 26, 2025, to frame rules for assessing the performance of high court judges, it was reported on Monday.

According to sources, the upcoming session will include consultations on drafting rules that would set the criteria for judicial performance reviews.

Earlier, a committee headed by Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail held a session during which the majority agreed that the matter of drafting rules could be referred to the Judicial Commission for consideration.

The move reflects an evolving effort to strengthen accountability and transparency within Pakistan’s judicial system.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) is the constitutional body responsible for recommending appointments of judges to the Supreme Court, the Federal Shariat Court, and the High Courts in Pakistan.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan serves as its chairman, and its composition includes senior judges, the attorney general, the law minister, and members of Parliament and the Bar Council.

The JCP’s nominations are subsequently sent to a parliamentary committee for approval or rejection.

The JCP’s primary function is to recommend names for the appointment of judges to the superior judiciary.

The JCP was proposed by the 18th Constitutional Amendment (2010) and has been subject to further amendments, such as the 19th (2010) and 26th (2024) Constitutional Amendments.
