Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reviewed government’s measures to reduce inflation, it was reported on Wednesday.
A weekly review meeting on Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) affairs was held which was chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The meeting was presented with the report of the committee formed regarding over-invoicing.
Reacting on the facts of the report, PM Shehbaz said the heinous business of over-invoicing continued from 2017 to 2022 and the relevant institutions remained negligent in their duties.
The Prime Minister directed that legal action should be taken against all those involved in this business more quickly.
The Prime Minister praised the report of the committee formed under the leadership of Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera.
The Prime Minister directed that the persons guilty of negligence should be identified and departmental action should be taken against them.
He said tax money is the trust of the nation and it is our duty to protect it and it is our responsibility to account for every penny.
The Prime Minister directed that a comprehensive strategy should be made to prevent such incidents in the future.
The Prime Minister directed that the Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU) should be made an active institution and representatives of the FIA and the Intelligence Bureau should also be included in it.
The Prime Minister was briefed that the FBR has created a Centralized Price Verification Portal which will be connected with banks at the end of June.
The FBR’s Post-Clearing Audit Wing identified this over-invoicing scam in October 2022.
During this time, 13 FIRs have been registered against the perpetrators, and legal action is underway.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Musaddiq Masood Malik, Ahad Khan Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, Chairman FBR and top government officials.
