Tom Cruise takes a bold turn from action to dark comedy in *Digger*

Tom Cruise has surprised fans with his dramatic transformation in the upcoming film Digger, where he takes on a very different kind of role from his usual action-packed characters. The first trailer, revealed at CinemaCon, introduces Cruise as Digger Rockwell, showcasing a striking physical and stylistic change. He appears with a heavier build, a comb-over hairstyle, and a more exaggerated, comedic personality, marking a clear departure from the high-octane hero roles he is best known for.

The film is directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and signals a bold shift into dark comedy territory. Alongside Cruise, the movie features a strong ensemble cast including Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, and John Goodman, adding further depth to the production.

Cruise has spoken enthusiastically about working with Iñárritu, describing the project as the kind of filmmaking experience that originally inspired his career. He said the film is “wild” and “funny,” expressing excitement for audiences to see the final result.

Director Iñárritu revealed that the concept for Digger was developed nearly nine years ago. He admitted he was taken aback by Cruise’s transformation, noting that while the actor is known for his fearlessness, this role represents a completely new level of creative risk. According to him, portraying Digger Rockwell may be one of Cruise’s most demanding performances yet.

Digger is scheduled for theatrical release on October 2, 2026, and is already generating significant curiosity due to its unusual tone, star power, and Cruise’s unexpected reinvention.
