Renowned Sufi singer Abida Parveen has expressed deep sorrow and admiration following the passing of legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle, describing her as a once-in-a-generation artist whose contribution to music can never be replicated.
In a heartfelt video shared on Instagram, Parveen paid glowing tribute to Bhosle, reflecting on her extraordinary talent and the timeless legacy she leaves behind. She said she often struggled to find words that could truly capture the scale of Bhosle’s artistry, calling her voice a divine gift that she shared generously with audiences across the world.
Parveen noted that both Asha Bhosle and her sister, the late Lata Mangeshkar, have voices that will continue to live forever in the history of music. According to her, artists of their calibre come once in history, and their absence creates a void that can never be filled.
Recalling her personal connection, Parveen shared that she had long wished to meet the legendary sisters, a wish that eventually came true during her travels to India. She also mentioned their collaboration as judges on the music reality show Sur Kshetra in 2012, alongside Bangladeshi singer Runa Laila, describing it as a memorable experience.
Praising Bhosle’s versatility, Parveen remarked that countless singers across generations continue to learn from her songs, often attempting to master her unique vocal techniques. She added that even today, contestants on musical platforms frequently begin with Asha Bhosle’s tracks, though her level of artistry remains unmatched.
Highlighting her technical brilliance, Parveen said Bhosle’s ability to perform complex compositions with ease had long been admired within the music fraternity. She also recalled conversations where even Lata Mangeshkar acknowledged her sister’s versatility and exceptional skill.
“She was not just a voice, she was a pillar of the music world,” Parveen said, emphasizing that words fall short when describing such a monumental loss.
In the caption accompanying her post, Parveen extended condolences to Bhosle’s family and fans worldwide, expressing grief over what she described as a profound loss not only for India and Pakistan but for the entire global music community. She also noted her close bond with the Mangeshkar family and offered prayers for strength and peace for those mourning the legendary singer.
