Work on building floating jetty at Korangi Fish Harbour launched

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry presided over a special meeting of the Korangi Fisheries Harbour Board in Karachi on Saturday, in which it was revealed that the work on construction of a floating jetty at Korangi Fish Harbour has begun.

According to details, an amount of Rs120 million will be spent on the establishment of the floating jetty.

Junaid Anwar Chaudhary said that the floating jetty project will be completed in June 2026. He said that after the construction of the jetty project, the water level in the areas will be improved.

The Federal Minister expressed the hope that this project will provide security and easy access to fishermen, and their costs of doing business will be lower.

The Minister said that this project will provide new employment opportunities in the areas located on the seabed.

He said that fishermen will get better facilities through environmental protection. He said that fishermen will avail more facilities through the Kech Monitoring System.

He said that a lot of opportunities are available for improving the performance of the Korangi Fish Harbor.

Earlier on April 17, 2026, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has announced a breakthrough in Pakistan’s fisheries sector, stating that for the first time, Pakistani fish and seafood exports to Russia have been approved.

According to the minister, 16 Pakistani companies have received permission to export fish to the Russian market, marking a significant step forward for the country’s seafood industry.

He added that access to Russia is expected to open doors to other member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, further expanding Pakistan’s export potential.

The minister highlighted that the Marine Fisheries Department ensures compliance with international quality standards, which is crucial for competing in global markets. Pakistan’s annual seafood exports are projected to exceed $500 million and could rise to $800 million following entry into the Russian market.
