Trump, Asim Munir discuss Hormuz crisis amid Iran tensions

US President Donald Trump and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir held a phone conversation focused on rising tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, as regional diplomacy with Iran faces fresh setbacks.

According to a Pakistani security source cited by Reuters, Trump said he would take Munir’s input into consideration regarding the ongoing blockade concerns in the strategic waterway, which has become a key flashpoint in US-Iran tensions.

During the call, Munir reportedly expressed concern that continued disruption in the Strait of Hormuz could further complicate peace efforts and derail already fragile diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route, has recently seen heightened tension following naval incidents and conflicting claims between the United States and Iran over maritime control.

The discussion comes shortly after Iran declined participation in a second round of high-level negotiations with the United States. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that conditions were not suitable for further talks, signaling a pause in diplomatic progress.

Pakistan has previously played a facilitative role in backchannel discussions between Washington and Tehran, hosting earlier rounds aimed at de-escalation. However, progress remains limited as regional tensions continue to rise.

No official confirmation has yet been issued by the US side regarding the details of the reported conversation.
