NAB chairman rejects International Monetary Fund report as biased

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Lieutenant General (retd) Nazir Ahmad said the International Monetary Fund’s report on corruption in Pakistan was biased and inappropriate.

Speaking informally with senior journalists, Nazir Ahmad raised objections to the IMF report and said he had lost trust in the institution.

He remarked that the IMF had been given too much space and was now interfering deeply in domestic matters.

The NAB chairman said he had decided not to take the IMF report seriously, adding that while the report praised NAB, it was not fair toward Pakistan.

He also said people did not trust reports issued by Transparency International.

Nazir Ahmad alleged that the IMF, World Bank and Transparency International had formed a troika that creates pressure against countries they dislike.

He further said the IMF report contained incorrect data.

According to NAB officials, the bureau achieved record recoveries of Rs2.962 trillion in the first quarter of 2026, marking a 33-fold increase compared to last year.

Officials said NAB recovered land worth more than Rs2,950 billion and directly recovered Rs11.085 billion through plea bargains and fines.
