UK view on Pak-Afghan border ignores ground reality, says FO

Pakistan’s Foreign Office has said that the United Kingdom’s position on the border situation between Pakistan and Afghanistan does not fully represent the facts on the ground.

In a statement, the Foreign Office spokesperson said that incidents of cross-border terrorism and infiltration from Afghan territory have continued despite Pakistan’s ceasefire initiative announced in March. According to the spokesperson, militant attacks from across the border have not stopped, raising serious security concerns.

The spokesperson stated that 52 civilians were martyred and 84 others injured in what he described as unprovoked cross-border firing and terrorist activities carried out by the Afghan Taliban. He rejected claims made by Afghan authorities regarding civilian casualties, calling them baseless and lacking verification.

The Foreign Office further said that Pakistani security forces have successfully foiled multiple infiltration attempts along the border. Ignoring the main causes of terrorism in the region, the spokesperson added, presents an incomplete and unbalanced view of the situation.

He urged the international community to understand the broader regional challenges and acknowledge Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism. Pakistan, he said, has paid a heavy price in terms of lives and resources in its long war against militancy.
