Hafiz Naeem demands termination of IPPs contracts

RAWALPINDI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has demanded that the contracts of Independent Power Producers (IPPs) should be terminated immediately.

Addressing a JI membership ceremony here on Saturday, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said Rs153 in taxes were being collected on one litre petrol, and the treasury was being emptied in the name of capacity payments.

He said JI was talking about changing the system, the levy, not subsidy of Rs100 on petrol, should be abolished, adding “We do not want to beg for subsidies, the contracts of IPPs should be terminated immediately.”

The JI chief said price of petrol and electricity could be reduced, adding JI is the voice of the common man, and collaboration of the feudal lords and the peasants has not given the country anything.

Hafiz Naeem said system needs to change, old regime could not give anything to Pakistan, negotiations should be held with traders on timetable of markets.

There was heavy rain and stormy winds. I congratulate the workers for their gathering in this weather. There is tax on diesel and petrol worth Rs400. The government is putting the burden on people. The JI chief said they reject illegal policy of solar, will announce a plan of action after Eid. We will go out with people across the country against IPPs and wheat mafia.
