Iran warns US: stay out of Hormuz Strait

Tensions in the Gulf have escalated after the United States announced plans to assist stranded commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran issued a strong warning against any foreign military presence in the key waterway.

U.S. President Donald Trump said Washington would help guide ships and crews “locked up” in the strait, claiming many vessels have been unable to move safely amid ongoing regional hostilities. He did not provide full operational details but said the initiative aims to restore commercial navigation and protect maritime trade.

Iran’s armed forces responded sharply, warning that any U.S. or foreign military approach to the Strait of Hormuz would be met with force. Tehran stressed that maritime security in the area must be coordinated with Iranian authorities and advised commercial shipping to avoid movement without clearance.

The situation intensified further after reports of a tanker being struck by unidentified projectiles near the strait, though crew members were reported safe. The incident added to growing concerns over maritime security in one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.

According to U.S. Central Command, the planned operation would involve a large deployment of personnel, aircraft, naval assets and drones to support what it described as a defensive mission aimed at ensuring regional stability and safeguarding global trade routes.

Meanwhile, diplomatic tensions continue alongside military developments. Efforts to revive nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran remain stalled, with both sides maintaining opposing positions on sanctions relief and nuclear restrictions.

Iran has also proposed broader conditions for de-escalation, including lifting blockades and sanctions, releasing frozen assets, and revising security arrangements in the Gulf region, while Washington continues to demand strict limits on Tehran’s nuclear programme.
