Heatwave alert has been issued for Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and southern Punjab from today (Thursday) until May 11 as daytime temperatures in most areas are expected to fluctuate between 46 degrees Celsius and 50 degrees Celsius during the aforementioned period.
Weather will remain extremely hot and humid in Karachi in coming days, increasing risks of heatstroke.
The Met Office said on Thursday that the maximum temperature in the port city would rise to 38 degrees Celsius in the afternoon. But it would feel like between 40 degrees Celsius and 42 degrees Celsius due to a high level of moisture in the air.
The level of humidity in the air in the morning stood at 78 per cent, while winds were blowing from west at the speed of 19 kilometers per hour.
Doctors advised people, especially children and elderly, to take precautionary measures in view of extreme heat.
They urged them to mostly stay indoors and avoid exposure to sun.
Extremely hot weather predicted for Punjab
Similarly, it will be extremely hot in Punjab as the maximum temperature in Lahore is expected to touch 43 degrees Celsius in a couple of days from now.
Alarming rise in temperatures in KP forecast
On the other hand, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Thursday said that daytime temperatures in plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) would remain extraordinarily high between May 8 and May 10.
It said that temperatures were likely to remain between 43 degrees Celsius and 47 degrees Celsius in Dera Ismael Khan, Tank, Bannu, Karak and Lakki Marwat during the above-mentioned period.
Similarly, the Authority said that temperatures would fluctuate between 39 degrees Celsius and 43 degrees Celsius in Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Haripur and Kohat.
It directed all district administrations and concerned departments to set up heatstroke centers, cooling points and mobile cooling units.
The Authority also directed Rescue 1122, fire brigade departments and hospital staff to remain prepared to deal with any emergency.
Weather to remain hot in Islamabad
Dry and hot weather was forecast for Islamabad as the maximum temperature in the federal capital would touch 36 degrees Celsius on Thursday afternoon, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 24 degrees Celsius.
Winds were blowing at the speed of 11 kilometers per hour.
