Rs2000b taxes likely to be imposed in Budget 2026-27

The next federal budget, 2026-27, will be finalised with the consultation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in which taxes worth Rs2000 billion will be imposed, it was reported on Wednesday.

Sources said that during a meeting between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund today, the participants will review Rs 15,300 billion in taxes.

In the first phase, the IMF delegation will visit Pakistan’s federal finance ministry and will hold talks with the federal minister for finance, Senator Mohammad Aurangzeb, and the State Bank of Pakistan governor, Jameel Ahmad.

Sources said that various measures and proposals will be reviewed to expand the tax net. The participants will review the cut in sales tax exemption and restrict the expenditures.

Sources further revealed that a collection of 7,500,000 income taxes will be discussed for the next fiscal year.

The meeting will consider the imposition of new taxes worth Rs 230 billion in the next year’s budget.  Rs 700 billion will be generated through various tax measures.
