Dananeer Mobeen calls Devdas overrated, sparks online debate

Pakistani actress and digital personality Dananeer Mobeen has stirred conversation on social media after openly criticizing the iconic Bollywood film Devdas, calling it “overrated” during a recent appearance on a digital chat segment.

Dananeer, who is currently busy promoting her upcoming sports drama Mera Lyari, written and directed by Abu Aleeha, made the remarks during a short chit-chat session with Mashion Pakistan. The actress, known for her roles in popular dramas such as Sinf-e-Aahan, Mohabbat Gumshuda Meri, Meem Se Mohabbat, and Very Filmy, also enjoys a strong fan base of over 7.1 million followers on social media.

During the conversation, she was asked to name a classic film she considers overrated. Responding candidly, Dananeer chose Devdas and questioned its storyline and popularity among audiences.

She remarked that while the film is often praised for its grandeur, costumes, and visual presentation, she personally found the story confusing and unconvincing. She pointed out multiple character arcs in the film and expressed disbelief over its status as a “classic,” adding that she never connected with the movie despite its widespread acclaim.

Her comments quickly went viral, sparking mixed reactions online. While some social media users agreed with her perspective and supported her honest opinion, others defended Devdas, calling it a cinematic masterpiece known for its emotional depth and cultural impact.

The discussion has once again revived the long-standing debate around classic films and modern audience expectations, especially as younger celebrities increasingly share unfiltered views on iconic cinema through digital platforms.
