The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to increase electricity prices by Rs1.73 per unit under the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism for consumers across Pakistan, including Karachi.
According to a report on Wednesday, NEPRA has decided to hold a hearing on the CPPA petition on 2 June.
The request for the tariff increase has been submitted under the monthly adjustment for April 2026.
The channel reported that if approved, the revised charges are expected to be applied to electricity bills issued in June.
Officials said the proposed adjustment reflects changes in fuel costs and electricity generation expenses during April.
Earlier, electricity prices had been reduced by one paisa per unit under the monthly adjustment for March 2026. That relief was implemented in electricity bills issued during May.
The latest request, if accepted by the regulator, is likely to place an additional financial burden on consumers already facing rising utility costs.
