Bails of PTI’s 12 convicted leaders confiscated in GHQ case; guarantors fined

A Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court (ATC) has ordered the confiscation of bail and surety bonds belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) 12 convicted proclaimed offenders in the General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case, while also imposing fines on their guarantors.

Among those named in the case are Omar Ayub Khan, Zartaj Gul, Kanwal Shauzab, Ashraf Sohna, Rashid Shafiq, Ahmad Chattha, Bilal Ejaz and Rai Hassan Murtaza.

The verdict was delivered by Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Amjad Ali Shah on Thursday, who declared the responses submitted to show-cause notices by the guarantors unsatisfactory before imposing the penalties.

The court imposed a fine of Rs100,000 each on the guarantors of the convicted offenders.

According to the court order, guarantors who fail to pay the fines will face six months in prison.

Earlier, on 5 May, the anti-terrorism court sentenced 47 proclaimed offenders to 10 years’ imprisonment each in connection with the GHQ attack case.

Twelve of the convicted individuals had later obtained interim bail from the court.

The court has now directed authorities to begin proceedings against proclaimed offenders in other May 9-related cases currently under trial in Rawalpindi’s anti-terrorism court.
