US media credits Field Marshal Asim Munir for Key role in Iran-US mediation

WASHINGTON: International recognition has reportedly been given to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for playing a mediatory role aimed at promoting peace in the region, with a US television report claiming his diplomatic engagement helped move Iran-US negotiations closer to a final outcome.

According to the American TV report, Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit to Tehran played a key role in bringing the negotiations toward a decisive stage. The report stated that amid the current Middle East situation, Gulf countries and Lebanon are part of the broader conflict environment, but Pakistan succeeded in helping finalize the draft framework.

The report further said that following Field Marshal Asim Munir’s return from Tehran, the proposed draft was forwarded to the Iranian and American leadership for review.

During the visit, the Pakistani military leadership held meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and the Speaker of Parliament, where detailed and productive discussions reportedly took place.

The US media outlet stated that both the United States and Iran have confidence in Field Marshal Asim Munir, while the coordination between Pakistan’s political and military leadership has remained a key factor in the mediation process.

The report also claimed that US President Donald Trump had previously referred to Asim Munir as “my favorite field marshal,” adding that the Pakistani government and military leadership had earlier played an important role in reducing tensions during Islamabad negotiations.

The American TV report further noted that Pakistan has historically played an important diplomatic role, including facilitating ties between the United States and China in the past.
