PM Shehbaz seeks boost in exports and industry

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Tuesday chaired a high-level review meeting on sectoral reforms and policy measures aimed at increasing investment, boosting economic activity, and ensuring sustainable economic development across the country.

Addressing the meeting, the Prime Minister said promoting industry and trade, along with increasing foreign investment, is essential for the long-term growth and stability of Pakistan’s economy. He said the government remains committed to creating a business-friendly environment and implementing reforms that support economic expansion.

Shehbaz Sharif noted that increasing domestic industrial production and adopting effective strategies to enhance exports are among the government’s top policy priorities. He directed relevant ministries to formulate policies that not only strengthen economic performance but also contribute to public welfare and long-term economic efficiency.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of comprehensive reforms in various sectors of the economy, stressing that development initiatives should be designed with a focus on sustainable growth and improved living standards for citizens.

Referring to the energy sector, he said the government is working vigorously on a comprehensive strategy to meet future energy requirements through alternative and renewable energy sources. He added that a modern and effective electric vehicle policy is the need of the hour to promote energy efficiency and provide affordable transportation options to the public.

The Prime Minister also instructed authorities to ensure meaningful consultation with experts and all relevant ministries to facilitate the adoption of modern technologies across different sectors of the economy. He said that close coordination and cooperation among ministries are crucial for the formulation and implementation of effective development policies.

Underscoring the government’s commitment to good governance, Shehbaz Sharif said administrative transparency and high performance standards in all reform initiatives remain among the government’s foremost priorities.

During the meeting, participants were briefed on various policy proposals currently under consideration by the relevant ministries as part of broader economic reform efforts.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Climate Change Minister Musadik Malik, Power Minister Awais Leghari, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan, Director General of the Special Investment Facilitation Council Major General Asadur Rehman Cheema, and senior officials from relevant ministries and institutions.
