Doctors strike continued on the second day Monday against the brutal acid attack on a female doctor inside Civil Hospital. The strike has led to the closure of outpatient departments (OPDs) and the suspension of elective medical services in government hospitals in Quetta.
The protest was announced by the Young Doctors Association (YDA), which strongly condemned the attack on Dr Mahnoor Nasir and demanded immediate measures to ensure the safety of healthcare workers.
Patients who came to a different hospital for treatment faced many hardships. The protesting doctors demanded the removal of the secretary of health, the medical superintendent, and the security incharge of Civil Hospital.
The Young Doctors demanded the formation of a judicial commission to probe the incident transparently.
The Young Doctors said that federal and provincial governments should adopt measures to ensure the safety and security of doctors.
On Saturday, 29-year-old Dr Mahnoor Nasir was attacked with acid by a hospital employee inside Civil Hospital Quetta. The attack left her with serious injuries and shocked the medical community.
Political leaders from across the country condemned the acid attack and called for strict punishment for those responsible. They described the incident as a shocking and inhumane act that has raised serious concerns about workplace safety in public hospitals.
The attack has reignited debate over security arrangements in healthcare institutions. Doctors say stronger measures are needed to protect medical staff and prevent similar incidents in the future.
