Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has announced another major achievement for Karachi Port, revealing that the port has surpassed the milestone of receiving more than 2,000 ships in a single year for the first time in eight years.
According to the minister, Karachi Port welcomed 2,003 vessels over the past year, marking a 7.5 percent increase compared to the previous year. The growth reflects rising maritime activity and highlights the port’s improving operational performance.
Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the total tonnage of ships arriving at the port exceeded 84.4 million tons. He added that gross registered tonnage also increased by 3 percent, demonstrating steady growth in shipping traffic and trade volumes.
The minister noted that the increase in maritime trade sends a positive signal for Pakistan’s economy, as higher cargo movement through the country’s largest seaport supports business activity, trade, and economic development.
Chairman Karachi Port Trust (KPT) credited the achievement to enhanced shipping operations and greater efficiency across port services. He emphasized that Karachi Port continues to serve as Pakistan’s most important maritime trade gateway and remains a key driver of the country’s international commerce.
The latest figures underscore Karachi Port’s growing role in regional trade and reflect ongoing efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s maritime sector and port infrastructure.
