China calls for Middle East ceasefire

China’s Foreign Minister has called for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East, stressing the urgent need to prevent further escalation and restore regional stability.

Speaking on global security challenges, the Chinese minister said the United Nations Security Council must strengthen its ability to take effective action during international crises. He warned that failures to uphold the principles of the UN Charter risk creating an environment where power overrides international law.

The minister also emphasized the importance of increasing the representation and influence of developing nations within the United Nations. He said countries from the Global South should have a stronger voice in global decision-making processes.

In addition, China urged reforms of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. According to the minister, these institutions should give developing countries greater representation and a larger role in shaping global economic policies, making international governance more balanced and inclusive.
