Iran refuses to allow IAEA to inspect its nuke sites as claimed by Trump

US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran has consented to a complete review of its nuclear programme, and that inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will reach the country at a suitable time for the purpose, it was reported on Wednesday.

The US president has said that had Iran not been willing to give access to its nuclear sites, there would have been no further negotiations.

US Vice President JD Vance, who led the US delegation in talks between the two countries, had also said on Monday that Iran had “agreed to invite IAEA inspectors back.”

Following negotiations in Switzerland, Vance had said that discussions with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) could be happening “as soon as today”.

On the other hand, Iran has refused to give permission to any team from a foreign country to inspect its nuclear installations.

The country’s foreign ministry’s spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has said that inspectors will not be given access to nuclear installations in Ispahan and other cities, which had been destroyed by the US and Israeli strikes. “No one can be allowed to inspect these sites in the present situation,” Baghaei has added.

He has also denied reports of a meeting with the IAEA director general.

The spokesman has said that there is no new restriction on Iran to use its frozen assets.

With the two countries’ positions wide apart, the focus is on whether any progress will be made in the talks, which are expected to continue through the end of this week.
