Khawaja Asif: Campaign against me won’t restore Modi’s credibility

Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, has dismissed what he described as an Indian misinformation campaign, saying that personal attacks and attempts to portray him as mentally unstable would not resolve the underlying issues between the two countries.

Responding to the alleged propaganda, Asif said that targeting his character was an attempt to divert attention from more important matters. He argued that such tactics would not change the realities on the ground or improve the situation.
The defence minister further claimed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is facing mounting pressure following what he described as India’s defeat against Pakistan. According to Asif, the campaign against him is aimed at repairing Modi’s public image, but he insisted that it would fail to restore the Indian leader’s credibility.
Asif also referred to comments by Rahul Gandhi, saying the Indian opposition leader had questioned the international honours and recognition received by Modi. He added that a British newspaper had also raised concerns regarding the credibility and transparency of those honours, arguing that such reports have further fueled criticism of the Indian prime minister.
The defence minister maintained that efforts to create what he called an artificially positive image of Modi abroad would ultimately prove unsuccessful. He said international perception cannot be shaped solely through publicity campaigns or personal attacks on political opponents.
Asif concluded that attempts to undermine him through misinformation would not address the broader challenges facing India or improve bilateral relations. Instead, he stressed that meaningful engagement and addressing substantive issues would be more effective than relying on propaganda or character attacks.
