The aftershocks of the massive increase in prices of petroleum products have started to unfold as Mini and Mazda Goods Transporters Association on Saturday announced to hike fares by 20 percent.
Pakistan Mazda and Goods Transporters Association President Haji Sher Ali said that high-priced petroleum products have broken the back of the transporters.
The transport sector will be severely affected by the daily fluctuation in prices of petroleum products.
He further stated that it will be impossible to keep the prices of essential commodities stable, given the daily fluctuating freight charges and the high cost of supplies.
Meanwhile, transporters also hiked fares of public transport. Now the fare between Karachi to Bahawalpur has soared to Rs2,500 from Rs2,000.
The fare from Karachi to Vehari raced up to Rs3,000 from Rs2,200. The fare from Karachi to Bahawalnagar also climbed up to Rs3,000 from Rs2,500.
The transporters further stated “We are increasing fares as the government has enhanced prices of petroleum products.” They further urged the government to review the current hike in petroleum prices.
