The Mutahida Madaris Council Pakistan has distanced itself from recent remarks made by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman regarding the Pakistan Army and the country’s martyrs.
The council described his comments as his personal and political stance.
The council’s spokesperson, Dr Mir Muhammad Asif Akbar Qadri, said that religious education boards, seminaries and the Council do not represent or endorse Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s views.
He reaffirmed that the Pakistan Army’s martyrs and war veterans are national heroes who are held in the highest regard, and any negative narrative against the sacrifices of the martyrs is unacceptable.
Dr Qadri clarified that religious seminaries, mosques, scholars and students have no connection with anti-state activities or campaigns targeting national institutions.
He called it unjust to use the names of seminaries and religious scholars for political campaigns.
Pakistan’s religious seminaries have always played a vital role in safeguarding the country’s ideological, intellectual and geographical frontiers, he added.
He reiterated that all religious boards, educational institutions and seminaries respect the Pakistan Army, security institutions, martyrs and Ghazis, and do not support any campaign or statement directed against them.
