RAWALPINDI: England captain Harry Brook delivered a sensational performance against Sri Lanka on Thursday, smashing a record-breaking double century in the ODI tri-series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Brook scored 202 off just 116 deliveries, powering England to a massive 429-4 in 50 overs, the highest ODI total recorded on Pakistani soil.
The right-handed batter became the first Englishman to score a double century in ODI cricket, reaching the milestone in only 114 balls to claim the record for the fastest double hundred in the format. He surpassed India’s Shubman Gill, who had previously reached the mark in 117 deliveries against the West Indies.
Brook’s remarkable innings also established new benchmarks for the highest individual ODI score by an English batter and an England captain, eclipsing the previous records held by Ben Stokes and Andrew Strauss.
His 202-run masterclass further surpassed Gary Kirsten’s 188 to become the highest individual ODI score on Pakistani soil.
Brook has also joined an exclusive group of international cricketers, becoming only the second player after Chris Gayle to score a triple century in Test cricket, a double century in ODIs and a century in T20 internationals.
