Pakistan captain backs Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman ahead of England clash

Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi has praised his team’s performance in the ongoing tri-series, saying the players have done well and defended targets twice in difficult conditions.

Speaking at a press conference in Rawalpindi on Saturday, Shaheen said the pitch at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium had not changed during the previous match.

He added that England had struggled because of the dew factor.

The captain backed opener Saim Ayub despite his recent lack of runs, saying he had been one of Pakistan’s best ODI performers in recent series.

He also called Fakhar Zaman a very important player for the team.

Speaking about the upcoming match against England, Shaheen said Pakistan could not predict the visitors’ approach but would focus on winning the game.

He stressed that faster pitches should be prepared for international cricket, as the next World Cup would be played on quicker surfaces.

He also described spinner Abrar Ahmed as an important player, saying he could be included in the team depending on the conditions.

Shaheen praised the young players for their performances, saying it was a good challenge for the team management when several players were in form.

Talking about his own bowling speed, the captain admitted that it had dropped but said his main focus was to take wickets whenever the team needed them.
