Cancer drug shortage disrupts treatment for thousands in Punjab hospitals

Cancer treatment for thousands of patients in Punjab’s government hospitals has been disrupted due to a shortage of medicines under the Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML) project, it was reported on Monday.

More than 5,000 cancer patients are reportedly facing difficulties accessing treatment as the supply of medicines under the project has been suspended.

According to the available information, only one of the four medicines provided under the CML project is partially available, leaving patients struggling to continue their treatment.

The shortage has raised concerns over the continuity of care for patients suffering from CML, a type of blood cancer that requires ongoing treatment.

With cancer treatment being expensive, many patients cannot afford to purchase the required medicines privately, further limiting their access to essential healthcare.
