LAHORE: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Tuesday rejected the police’s request for an extension in the physical remand of PTI leader Hammad Azhar in the Jinnah House attack case and sent him to jail on judicial remand instead, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
ATC’s Admin Judge Sardar Muhammad Akram Khan pronounced the verdict.
During the hearing, the state counsel told the court that polygraph test of the suspect was still to be conducted. “Therefore, I pray to the court to order an extension in the physical remand of the suspect.”
Hammad’s counsel Abu Zar Niazi said that his client be sent to jail on judicial remand if his polygraph test was to be conducted.
He cited a high court’s ruling to support his argument, and said that a suspect was only made to go through the test if he or she was willing.
Speaking on the occasion, Hammad said that he should not be made to pay for ignorance on the part of the prosecution. “If the law gives me a choice, I will not go for the test,” he added.
Earlier, Hammad was presented in the court on the completion of 12-day physical remand.
