LPG prices soar across major cities, burdening consumers

KARACHI: The sale of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at inflated rates has increased financial difficulties for consumers in several major cities across Pakistan, including Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Quetta, Ghotki and Sargodha.

Despite the official price fixed by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), LPG is being sold at significantly higher rates in local markets, placing an additional burden on household and commercial consumers.

In Karachi, LPG is being sold at Rs530 to Rs570 per kilogram. Meanwhile, prices in Lahore, Multan and Ghotki have reached Rs600 per kilogram.

The situation is even more concerning in Sargodha, where LPG is being sold at Rs610 to Rs650 per kilogram, significantly above the officially notified rate.

OGRA has fixed the official LPG price at Rs294 per kilogram for November. However, consumers in different cities are being forced to pay almost double the government-approved price.

The sharp difference between official and market prices has raised concerns among consumers, particularly households that rely on LPG for cooking and other daily needs.

The rising prices have also affected commercial users, increasing their operating expenses. Consumers are facing growing difficulties as the fuel continues to be sold at substantially higher rates than the official price.
