#Didi trends as Modi’s BJP faces defeat by Mamata in Indian state polls

#Didi has become top trend on social media after Mamata Banerjee and her political party Trinamool Congress (TMC) defeated Narendra Modi’s  Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with a clear majority in Indian state elections.

Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress party has grabbed victory in West Bengal again for the third consecutive time with a clear majority by winning over 211 seats against BJP‘s 79 out of 294 assembly seats, according to the website of the Election Commission of India.

The ruling party in Centre, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has failed to become victorious in West Bengal polls despite making strong efforts by awarding party tickets to several TMC deserters.

#MamataBanerjee and #Didi became the top trend on Twitter as users are hailing the Mamata Banerjee to grab victory against Narendra Modi to throw BJP out of West Bengal state.

The incumbent chief minister’s party in India’s West Bengal state has defeated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party in a state election held as the coronavirus pandemic surged to crisis levels, according to Reuters.

Modi has been criticised for focusing on the elections instead of making the pandemic his top priority.

Some expert blame the federal election commission for allowing rallies and voting in which large crowds flouted rules on social distancing and mask-wearing.
