Federal govt refuses to become party in Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s case

Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday heard a petition regarding the health and repatriation of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.

During the proceedings, the government informed the court that it has decided not to become a party or assist in the case being heard in a U.S. court.

Additional Attorney General told the court about the government’s decision to stay away from the case proceedings in the United States. Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan questioned the basis for this decision, remarking that neither the government nor the Attorney General can make such decisions without proper reasoning.

“This is a constitutional court. No one can simply come and say that a decision has been made without providing the rationale behind it,” the judge said.

The court directed the government to present the reasons for not becoming a party in the U.S. case at the next hearing scheduled for July 4.
