Federal government has decided to start sugar crushing season from November 15.
The decision was made during meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board which was held under the chai of Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain.
The decision regarding the start of the crushing season was made after due consultation with all provinces and the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association. All sugar mills have been ordered to start crushing sugarcane from November 15.
Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain after the meeting told media that the decision was taken after consultation with all provinces and Pakistan Sugar Mills Association.
He said action will be taken against any sugar mill that does not start crushing on the scheduled date.
Federal Minister said payment of dues to farmers will be ensured before the start of crushing. Rana Tanveer said the government was taking decisions in the interest of farmers so that they are not exploited.
He said timely crushing will facilitate sugarcane farmers, adding that the decision was taken in the interest of farmers and in the timely supply of sugar in the market.
