PIA runs all operations as per international regulations: spokesman

KARACHI: PIA has rejected data pertaining to air operations and maintenance as incorrect and fabricated.

A spokesperson for the national carrier said that the cancellation of flights was due to weather or operational reasons, adding the news about the plane’s windscreen was misleading and contrary to technical facts.

All PIA operations are ongoing in accordance with international regulations, he added.

There was only a minor crack in the inner layer of the windscreen. There was no threat to the flight, the spokesperson clarified. .

He warned that any attempt to tarnish the reputation of the national institution will not be tolerated.

“The institution and its assets are the property of the public. The PIA administration and staff are determined to protect the reputation of the national airline,” he said.

The PIA spokesperson said the Society of Aircraft Engineers of Pakistan’s (SAEP) statement is misleading and contrary to facts.

“The so-called society is trying to attract unnecessary attention at international forums and is putting the reputation of the country’s aviation at stake for personal interests,” he said.

The spokesperson added that the Civil Aviation Authority is the body responsible for air safety in Pakistan.

“The fitness of all aircraft, flight routes and schedules are approved by Civil Aviation.

“The qualifications of the leaders of the engineering society have not been verified by the Pakistan Engineering Council, and a false narrative is being fabricated to stop privatisation and for personal gain. No flights have been canceled due to the engineering strike in the last two days.

“The dismissed engineers are no longer in their positions as per the society’s constitution. False propaganda is a punishable offense under Section 124A, and PIA reserves the right to take legal action,” the spokesman concluded.
